NSR Hospitals, Region Zealand
OPERATIONS
We assisted Region Zealand in meeting national targets for cancer treatments by optimising the use of CT and MR scans at Næstved, Slagelse, and Ringsted Hospitals.
CASE
In 2017 and 2018, Region Zealand failed to meet its target for the time between diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients due to delays in obtaining MR and CT scans. Consequently, the budget was reduced, and staff numbers were cut to manage the costs of conducting scans at private hospitals.
RESULTS
Through value stream mapping and analysis, the CT and MR scans process was optimised to be significantly more effective while reducing the number of staff required for operations. This led to a 50% increase in production (from 8 to 12 during a shift) and an expansion of production time by 75% within the existing staff and capacity (from 37 to 65 hours a week).

DELIVERABLES
We facilitated a complete analysis of the scanning process, including the definition of takt time, standard work, and a management monitoring system. Standard tools were applied for planning, execution, and systematic improvement of processes and KPIs to oversee performance and quality. Training for leaders and staff resulted in a change in behaviour, enabling the effective implementation of new methods, systems, and tools.
As responsible line manager and Chief of Staff at Næstved, Slagelse, and Ringsted Hospitals, Kristian Fevejle led the process end-to-end.
